How Leaders should Prepare for Success in a Post-COVID-19 World
In this webinar, co-presented with Tom Goodwin, I talked about how companies can use technologies to bring transformation in the context of the post-COVID world.
A live webinar with Tom Goodwin, Global Head of Futures and Insight at Publicis Groupe, hosted by Egen in the middle of 2020. Tom opened with the line his work is best known for:
Uber, the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles. Facebook, the world’s most popular media owner, creates no content. Alibaba, the most valuable retailer, has no inventory. And Airbnb, the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no real estate. Something interesting is happening.
Drawing on his book Digital Darwinism: Survival of the Fittest in the Age of Business Disruption, Tom laid out frameworks for making sense of a world that was not just changing quickly but had become genuinely uncertain. The session covered how to approach digital transformation when it is accelerating faster than anyone planned for, how to challenge “best practices” rather than inherit them, how to stay customer centric through it, and how to build a culture that can keep transforming after the crisis passes.
My part was the technology half of the argument: how companies actually use technology to transform a business or an industry, as opposed to talking about it. The audience was leaders spearheading digital initiatives, which meant the conversation stayed on what these decisions cost and who has to make them.
